  1. Long: socks5-hostname
  2. Arg: <host[:port]>
  3. Help: SOCKS5 proxy, pass host name to proxy
  4. Added: 7.18.0
  5. Category: proxy
  6. Example: --socks5-hostname proxy.example:7000 $URL
  7. ---
  8. Use the specified SOCKS5 proxy (and let the proxy resolve the host name). If
  9. the port number is not specified, it is assumed at port 1080.
  10. This option overrides any previous use of --proxy, as they are mutually
  11. exclusive.
  12. This option is superfluous since you can specify a socks5 hostname proxy with
  13. --proxy using a socks5h:// protocol prefix. (Added in 7.21.7)
  14. Since 7.52.0, --preproxy can be used to specify a SOCKS proxy at the same time
  15. --proxy is used with an HTTP/HTTPS proxy. In such a case curl first connects to
  16. the SOCKS proxy and then connects (through SOCKS) to the HTTP or HTTPS proxy.
  17. If this option is used several times, the last one will be used.
