  1022. * An error in the distributed object networking layer has

  1038. Configuration, installation, and execution environments:
  1039. * This is the introduction of the new Panda version numbering
  1040. system. The Panda version will be represented with three
  1041. dot-separated numbers. The first number, the major version, will

  1044. third number will increment as needed to indicate bugfix releases

  1289. GraphicsWindow::make_texture_buffer() to make a buffer you can
  1290. render into and apply the result as a texture map to objects in
  1291. your scene. The NonlinearImager in the distort directory is a
  1292. complex example of using this interface.
  1293. * Explicit support for the Mesa 3D library's software-based
  1294. offscreen rendering, allowing a Panda program to generate
  1295. offscreen images as a background process, independently of any
  1296. graphics card or desktop environment.
  1297. * GraphicsLayer and GraphicsWindow render order can now be easily
  1298. adjusted dynamically with set_sort() methods.
  1299. * Built-in frame rate meter can be activated by setting
  1300. "show-frame-rate-meter 1" in your Configrc file.
  1301. Scene graph:
  1302. * New tag system on PandaNodes allows storing of arbitrary string
  1303. data on nodes, keyed by a string dictionary. The
  1304. NodePath::get_net_tag() interface retrieves the data value for a
  1305. particular tag on a node or the nearest ancestor of the node.
  1306. NodePath::find() can search for a node in the scene graph with a
  1307. given tag or tag/value pair.
  1308. * Explicit shear transforms are now supported on nodes, as well as
  1309. in character animation tables.
  1310. * Characters now have an interface to control joint and slider
  1311. values dynamically, instead of strictly from an animation file.

  1313. * Nurbs surfaces and curves can now be rendered directly by Panda,
  1314. which will tesselate them on the fly at some CPU cost. This is a
  1315. modeling convenience only; it is not intended to be used for

  1329. invisible break point.
  1330. * A default font is compiled in even if the FreeType library is not

  1335. Collision and physics system:
  1336. * More robust collision interface, supporting NodePaths properly so
  1337. that collisions detected into (and from) particular instances of
  1338. nodes can be differentiated. CollisionEntry has a much simpler
  1339. mechanism for getting the intersection point and normal in an
  1340. arbitrary coordinate space defined by a NodePath, instead of the
  1341. user having to convert the coordinate space by hand.
  1342. * New CollisionVisualizer object to visually show collisions as they
  1343. are tested and detected, useful for optimizing collision
  1344. performance. Activate this with
  1345. base.cTrav.showCollisions(render).
  1346. * Implicit velocity system is now integrated with scene graph; the
  1347. relative velocity of moving nodes is automatically considered when
  1348. testing for most kinds of collisions. Use
  1349. NodePath::set_fluid_pos() to indicate that a node is moving
  1350. fluidly to its new position and should test for collisions along
  1351. the way (as opposed to the more traditional NodePath::set_pos(),
  1352. which unconditionally sets the node to its new position).
  1353. * Introduction of "tube" collision shapes, sometimes called
  1354. "capsules" in other libraries. It is a cylinder capped with
  1355. hemispheres.
  1356. * CollisionSolid::set_effective_normal() provides a way to define a
  1357. sloping surface with an apparently vertical normal, to prevent
  1358. characters standing on the surface from sliding down.
  1359. * Collision polygons now respect clipping planes.

  1361. HTTPClient and net systems:
  1362. * More verbose error reporting.
  1363. * Better support for proxy servers, including SOCKS5 proxies.
  1364. Model converters:
  1365. * maya2egg converter now supports skeleton/morph animation files
  1366. fully, including soft-skinning, hard-skinning, and morphs (blend
  1367. shapes). NURBS and polygon meshes are both supported.
  1368. * A new Maya plugin called libmayapview allows opening a Panda
  1369. window from within Maya to view how the scene will look once it
  1370. has been converted to Panda.
  1371. * New soft2egg converter supports models and animation stored in
  1372. SoftImage 4.3 files. (Newer versions of SoftImage are not
