  767. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.3.0 ------------------------
  768. This release contains several new features, and as such, it might be
  769. buggy. However, we've been testing it internally for a couple weeks,
  770. and it seems to be okay. It contains the following new features:
  771. * Stencil buffers and stencil operations now supported.
  772. * Sound API now supports DSP and better support for large MP3s.
  773. * Video uses FFMPEG instead of DirectShow - no more codec issues.
  774. * Heightfield terrain.

  782. * Support for 'model-cache-dir', which caches a BAM each time you load an EGG.
  783. * OnscreenText/DirectLabel can contain embedded 3D models inside the text.
  784. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.2.3 ------------------------
  785. The last release was a disaster:
  786. * I failed to fix packpanda.
  787. * I broke the tcl/tk stuff.
  788. * I added ppythonw, and it wasn't reliable.
  789. So basically, this release fixes packpanda and tcl/tk. It doesn't
  790. fix ppythonw yet (I don't know what's wrong), but it does disable
  791. it temporarily. It keeps the few things from 1.2.2 that were worth
  792. keeping.
  793. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.2.2 ------------------------
  794. This is a minor bugfix release.
  795. * Adds 'ppythonw', a version of ppython that doesn't
  796. open a console window.
  797. * If you have a bad fmod DLL in your windows folder,
  798. this version compensates.
  799. * Fixes a small bug in the VRML-to-egg converter.
  800. * Small stylistic improvements in some sample programs.
  801. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.2.1 ------------------------
  802. This release is likely to be much more stable than its predecessors.
  803. It contains many new features:
  804. * lots of performance optimizations
  805. * a preliminary OSX port
  806. * new modes for animation blending
  807. * easier partial-body animations
  808. * more powerful shader-to-engine interface
  809. * better support for rotating bodies in physics engine
  810. * support for compressed model files
  811. * multiple render targets (ie, glDrawBuffers)
  812. * support for stereo rendering
  813. * more complete API reference manual
  814. * ability to control mipmaps explicitly
  815. * better tools for debugging offscreen buffers
  816. * new sample programs
  817. * a number of packpanda repairs
  818. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.1.0 ------------------------
  819. This is a BETA release. It's pretty reliable, but there are still a
  820. few quirks here and there. Over the summer, Panda3D was overhauled
  821. top to bottom. The new code is dramatically improved, but it needs a
  822. little bit of testing. The new features are:
  823. * Much faster rendering of high-poly models.
  824. * Dramatically improved vertex and pixel shader support.
  825. * New demo programs using shaders and render-to-texture.
  826. * Play movies by using an AVI as a texture (windows only).
  827. * Python scripting uses much faster python to C++ interface.
  828. * Support for procedurally-created geometry (eg, fractals, etc).
  829. * Cleaner, simpler internal data structures.
  830. * Comes with Python 2.4 support built-in.
  831. * A lot more.
  832. The new demo programs are:
  833. * Render to Texture Demo
  834. * Cartoon Shader Demo
  835. * Motion Trails Demo
  836. * Procedural Geometry (Fractals) Demo
  837. * Normal Mapping Demo
  838. However, a caution: this is a BETA release: reasonably stable, but
  839. not quite perfect. Please send us your bug reports.
  840. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.5 ------------------------
  841. UPDATE: this release broke support for visual studio. Use
  842. panda3d 1.0.4 if you wish to compile panda from scratch using
  843. visual studio.
  844. This release consists mainly of compatibility improvements.
  845. * Now compiles under MS Visual Toolkit (makefile changes)
  846. * Now compiles under Mandrake 10.1 (a fix in the makefile)
  847. * Now compiles under Debian Sarge (a fix in the VRML lexer)
  848. * Now compiles under Ubuntu HH (same as DEBIAN SARGE)
  849. * Add code for building debian 'deb' archives.
  850. * Fix scene editor and particle panel so they work on linux.
  851. * Add support for --no-python to makepanda.
  852. * Tidied up makepanda a bit.
  853. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.4 ------------------------
  854. * This version includes the new Max exporter and the new Maya
  855. export panel.
  856. * We have added the --genman option to makepanda (to
  857. regenerate the API reference manual). This uses the epydoc
  858. documentation-generation system.
  859. * Several bugs in the new tutorials have been repaired.
  860. * A bug in fmod positional audio has been fixed.
  861. * Makepanda now puts the maya and max plugins in a
  862. separate 'plugins' directory, for convenience.
  863. * The 'libpandaegg' library has been exported to python.
  864. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.3 ------------------------
  865. * The binary release contains a brand new collection of
  866. sample programs. The new sample programs are much better.
  867. * If you install the windows binary release, the
  868. sample programs can now be run from the start menu.
  869. * Lighting under DirectX was broken. This has been repaired.
  870. * The binary release has been compiled with support for pstats.
  871. (Previously, it was compiled with pstats disabled).
  872. * Various changes to make panda3d more compatible with
  873. the 'epydoc' documentation-generation system.
  874. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.2 ------------------------
  875. This is a bugfix release.
  876. * makepanda contained a bug: it was compiling maya2egg6
  877. against the Maya 5.0 libraries, making it largely useless.
  878. This is fixed.
  879. * Maya2egg65 has been added, for Maya 6.5 users.
  880. * The configuration combo "want-tk=false, want-directtools=true"
  881. used to confuse panda, because directtools uses Tk. Now
  882. it's smart enough to do the right thing.
  883. * When you ask controlJoint to create a control node for
  884. you, it initializes the control node to the joint's initial
  885. position.
  886. * The scene editor supposedly works now. We'll see.
  887. * The models directory was missing the animation 'panda-walk4',
  888. which is necessary for the tutorial.
  889. * A new directory 'win-extras' has been added to the
  890. thirdparty tree. This contains some miscellaneous python
  891. libraries needed at the Entertainment Technology Center.
  892. The script that builds the windows installer will include
  893. these libraries in the distribution.
  894. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.1 ------------------------
  895. This is a bugfix release.
  896. * In the previous binary release, Config.prc did not contain a
  897. load-display line. This confuses pview. Pview is being fixed,
  898. but until then, the load-display line has been restored.
  899. * The Max and Maya plugins were inadvertently omitted from the
  900. previous binary release. This has been corrected.
  901. * An error in the distributed object networking layer has
  902. been fixed. The error only affected those who were trying to
  903. write LAN games using the CMU LAN server and p2p messages.
  904. * An error in the physics code has been corrected.
  905. * Python Megawidgets (pmw), which is required for "directtools",
  906. was not supplied in the previous release. We are now including
  907. pmw. In the Linux RPMs, to avoid overwriting any
  908. distribution-supplied pmw package, we put this package
  909. into /usr/share/panda3d.
  910. * To be consistent, we moved all the other python code into
  911. /usr/share/panda3d as well. This requires a file 'panda.pth'
  912. in the python lib directory.
  913. * In the binary RPMs, the file permissions of the python
  914. source files have been changed to 555, so that even if root
  915. runs panda, the '.pyc' files will not be modified or regenerated.
  916. ------------------------ RELEASE 1.0.0 ------------------------
  917. Configuration, installation, and execution environments:
  918. * This is the introduction of the new Panda version numbering
  919. system. The Panda version will be represented with three
  920. dot-separated numbers. The first number, the major version, will
  921. change only very rarely. The second number, the minor version,
  922. will increment frequently, with each new feature release. The
  923. third number will increment as needed to indicate bugfix releases
  924. on the minor version.
  925. * Use PandaSystem::get_version_string() (or
  926. PandaSystem.getVersionString() in Python) to return the version
  927. number of the currently-running Panda.
  928. * New runtime config system allows for dynamic loading of prc files
  929. and supports querying of available variable names. Use
  930. ConfigVariableString, ConfigVariableBool, etc. to get a value from
  931. the prc file(s); use the ConfigVariableManager and
  932. ConfigPageManager classes (or the cvMgr and cpMgr global objects
  933. in Python) to make general queries.
  934. * The ppremake build system now properly detects intra-tree
  935. dependencies, but only if each tree is fully built and installed
  936. before ppremake is run within the next dependent tree. Requires
  937. using ppremake version 1.18 or higher.
  938. Miscellaneous:
  939. * New support for encrypted streams, including encrypted subfiles
  940. within a multifile, using the OpenSSL encryption library. Adds
  941. pencrypt and pdecrypt programs.
  942. * The default port for PStats is now 5185, to avoid a conflict with
  943. Instant Messenger.
  944. * New "smooth" checkbox on PStats graphs provides a better sense of
  945. overall trends when graphs are noisy.
  946. * The meaning of the three components of HPR angles has been
  947. officially changed, in particular the meaning of the R component.
  948. This change was introduced to make the three components more
  949. consistent with each other, and to make P and R work together in a
  950. more sensible way. Existing code which used hard-coded HPR angles
  951. may be invalidated by this change. To convert existing code, you
  952. should use the global function old_to_new_hpr() to determine what
  953. new HPR triple that corresponds to an old HPR triple. As a
  954. temporary stopgap, you may define temp-hpr-fix 0 in your prc file.
  955. * Add support for weak reference counts using the WeakPointerTo
  956. class.
  957. * Add optional support for STL's semistandard hashing containers,
  958. e.g. hash_map and hash_set.
  959. * Panda no longer requires any registry keys or environment
  960. variables. This means it is now possible to run panda directly
  961. from a CD, install multiple copies of panda on a single machine,
  962. or install panda by copying the tree from another computer.
  963. Note that the installer does add the panda 'bin' directory to
  964. your PATH, and it does store an uninstall key in the registry,
  965. but neither of these is needed for panda to function.
  966. * The 'makepanda' build system is now capable of building
  967. prepackaged games for Windows. These prepackaged games are simply
  968. copies of panda with the game code included, some of the
  969. unnecessary stuff stripped out, and some changes to the start
  970. menu. See "Airblade - Installer" on the panda downloads page
  971. for an example.
  972. * This is the first release to include not just a binary installer
  973. for windows, but also binary RPMs for fedora 2, fedora 3, and
  974. redhat 9.
  975. * All of the sample programs have been tested. The ones that didn't
  976. work have been removed, the ones that do work have been (lightly)
  977. documented.
  978. * In the Win32 binary release, the 'config.prc' file has been moved
  979. to the 'etc' directory. This is to make it consistent with the
  980. Linux version.
  981. Rendering system:
  982. * Multitexture support is now part of Panda. This introduces the
  983. TextureStage and TexCoordName classes, as well as new interfaces
  984. like NodePath::add_texture(). As of the present release,
  985. multitexture is only supported when using the OpenGL renderer.
  986. * Support for programmable shaders is now possible using the Cg
  987. shader language. Assign a CgShaderAttrib to a node to apply a
  988. programmable shader.
  989. * New support for the Helix library allows playing of a streaming
  990. movie in a Panda texture. Presently only supported on Windows.
  991. * Deprecated the old "win-origin-x" and "win-origin-y" prc variables
  992. in favor of "win-origin", which takes two numbers separated by a
  993. space. Similarly with "win-width" and "win-height", in favor of
  994. "win-size".
  995. * Deprecated the old Camera::set_scene() interface; now a Camera
  996. implicitly renders whatever scene graph it is parented to.
  997. * Removed the old GraphicsLayer and GraphicsChannel classes.
  998. Instead of using these interfaces, you can now create any number
  999. of DisplayRegions directly on the window.
1000. * Offscreen render-to-a-texture will now be properly oriented under
1001. DirectX (previously, it would render the texture image upside-down
  1002. and backward).
1003. * Support for automatic keystone correction caused by an off-axis
  1004. physical projector using Lens::set_keystone().
1005. * New framebuffer-mode prc variable allows explicit control over the
1006. default framebuffer properties requested by Panda, including
1007. whether software or hardware rendering is required.
1008. * Added "multisample" transparency mode (alpha keyword "ms" in an
1009. egg file), which allows good-quality transparency (especially for
1010. alpha cutouts) without requiring back-to-front sorting, and
1011. without artifacts from improper sorting. This does require
1012. special multisample hardware capabilities, however. Presently
1013. supported in OpenGL mode only. Automatic fallback to "binary"
1014. transparency mode if multisample is not supported on a given
  1015. platform.
1016. * New cursor-filename and icon-filename config variables replace the
  1017. old win32-mono-cursor and win32-window-icon variables. Also,
1018. runtime control over these properties is now provided by the
  1019. WindowProperties class.
1020. * Better management of potential memory leaks due to cyclic
1021. reference counts in the RenderState and TransformState caches.
1022. Now cycles are automatically detected and broken.
  1023. Scene graph:
1024. * GeomNodes now have a CollideMask, just like CollisionNodes, which
1025. deprecates the old set_collide_geom() interface to detect
1026. collisions with visible geometry. There is a new NodePath
1027. interface for querying and setting the collide masks for single
1028. nodes or for entire subgraphs.
1029. * New NodePath interfaces to control lighting eliminate the need to
1030. create an explicit LightAttrib. The new lighting interfaces are
1031. designed to be similar to the new multitexture interfaces.
1032. * New NodePath interfaces to control the texture matrix, including a
  1033. new project_texture() method to enable hardware-assisted
  1034. projective texturing.
1035. * New NodePath::flatten_multitex() interface to bake in certain
1036. kinds of multitexture effects into a single texture, generated
  1037. on-the-fly.
1038. * New options for ColorBlendAttrib and RenderModeAttrib.
  1039. * NodePath::set_transparancy() now accepts a
1040. TransparencyAttrib::Mode parameter to specify exactly what kind of
  1041. transparency you'd like.
  1042. * New NodePath::set_render_mode() interface accepts a
  1043. RenderModeAttrib::Mode parameter, deprecating
  1044. set_render_mode_filled() and set_render_mode_wireframe().
1045. * LerpQuatInterval can be used as a drop-in replacement for
1046. LerpHprInterval; it performs spherical lerps in quaternion space,
1047. rather than lerping each component of a HPR individually.
1048. LerpHprInterval is not deprecated; it remains useful within its
  1049. limitations.
1050. * New DirectSliderBar gui object implements a standard slider bar
1051. with a thumb (like a window scroll bar).
1052. * Lighting normals are now automatically counterscaled properly when
1053. lighting is enabled in the presence of a scale, uniform or
1054. nonuniform, in the scene graph. You can also use
1055. RescaleNormalAttrib for explicit control over this behavior.
1056. * Improvements to RopeNode for rendering splines in various
  1057. representations.
  1058. Collisions and physics systems:
1059. * New CollisionSegment and CollisionInvSphere collision solids.
1060. * The collision system now reports normals for intersections
1061. detected from collision rays, segments, and lines.
1062. * Several improvements to the physics system.
  1063. Model converters:
1064. * x2egg and egg2x added to converters, as well as to inline
1065. conversion supported via ptloader. This adds support for
  1066. DirectX's native so-called "retained-mode" file format. This file
1067. format supports animation and joint hierarchies as well as basic
  1068. polygonal models.
1069. * vrml2egg added to converters, as well as to inline conversion
1070. supported via ptloader. This adds support for VRML 2.0 model
  1071. files only.
1072. * Added -noabs option to many model converters, to help detect
1073. problems with unintended absolute path references.
  1074. * Added egg2bam -flatten and -combine-geoms.
  1075. * We now have working exporters for Max5, Max6, Max7, Maya5, Maya6.
1076. (Update: these were accidentally omitted from the binary release)
1077. * The Max exporter is dramatically improved: it now includes support
1078. for character studio, and the polygon winding bug has been fixed.
  1079. ------------------------ RELEASE 2004-07-27 ------------------------
1080. Configuration, installation, and execution environments:
1081. * We have moved to a new, more explicit naming convention for our
1082. import statements. Rather than installing all Python files into
1083. one big flat namespace, we now import them from their appropriate
  1084. directories, e.g. "from direct.actor import Actor".
1085. * "from ShowBaseGlobal import *" is replaced with "import
  1086. direct.directbase.DirectStart" and/or "from pandac.PandaModules
  1087. import *".
1088. * The old "generatePythonCode" script has been replaced with a new
1089. "genPyCode" script that automates the Python wrapper generation
1090. process without requiring any special parameters.
1091. * The old dependencies on environment variables have been removed.
1092. There are no longer requirements for any environment variables to
1093. be set in either the build process or the runtime environment
1094. (although a few optional environment variables remain to allow
  1095. custom configuration).
1096. * INSTALL document greatly enhanced for clarity.
1097. * An automatic build script is now provided to further simplify
1098. building Panda3D for Unix and Cygwin users.
1099. * The old "Configrc" filename to identify runtime configuration
1100. files is deprecated; configuration files should now be named
1101. Config.prc, or in general, *.prc. The system-default
  1102. configuration files are auto-generated as 20_panda.prc,
1103. 30_pandatool.prc, and 40_direct.prc (the numeric prefixes control
1104. the order in which these are loaded at runtime).
  1105. Rendering system:
1106. * Some deprecated methods of CollisionEntry have been flagged to
1107. raise an exception now; these are replaced with the newer
1108. interfaces that can return a collision point in an arbitrary
  1109. coordinate system.
1110. * Camera::set_cull_center() can be used for debugging culling by
1111. setting the effective point of visibility culling different from
1112. the actual point. From Python, use base.oobeCull() to examine
  1113. this effect.
1114. * Alt-Enter in pview toggles between fullscreen and windowed modes.
1115. * Added experimental support for GL display lists.
  1116. Scene graph:
1117. * Exposed methods to directly retrieve and set the individual
1118. vertices of a GeomNode from Python code.
1119. * The new PortalNode defines the interface for Panda's new
1120. cell-portal visibility system; each PortalNode is a window into
1121. another zone, or a separate subgraph; the PortalNode can hide or
1122. show the subset of its zone's geometry visible through its
  1123. "portal".
1124. * The new PolylightNode applies a simple lighting-like effect
1125. without actually using lighting; objects will brighten or darken
1126. as a whole according to their proximity to the light. Use
1127. PolylightEffect to enable this effect.
1128. * The new FadeLODNode works like ordinary LODNode, but the switches
1129. are alpha-blended in over a short period of time rather than
  1130. popping immediately.
  1131. Text display:
1132. * Text now supports embedded mode changes--special characters to
1133. switch fonts, colors, scale, etc. within a line or within a
  1134. paragraph.
1135. * Windows IME is better supported by Panda/Direct widgets
1136. (e.g. PGEntry and/or DirectEntry) in fullscreen mode as well as in
  1137. windowed mode.
  1138. Model converters:
1139. * dxf2egg and egg2dxf added to converters, as well as to inline
  1140. conversion supported via ptloader.
  1141. ------------------------ RELEASE 2004-03-29 ------------------------
  1142. Miscellaneous:
1143. * We once again support the Microsoft VC6 compiler.
1144. * The "pstats" program is now provided in the Windows environment as
1145. part of pandatool. It is similar to "gtk-stats" on a Unix
1146. environment, and can be used to view a real-time graph of
1147. performance timing in a running Panda process. See
  1148. panda/src/doc/howto.use_pstats.
1149. * New session recording and playback support allows capturing user
1150. and network input to a disk file, for replaying later, offline.
  1151. Use "record-session filename.boo" and "playback-session
1152. filename.boo" in your Configrc file.
1153. * The genPyCode script now uses PythonWare's SqueezeTool to
1154. "squeeze" the large number of generated .py files into a single
1155. shared library, for substantially improved startup times on
  1156. Windows.
1157. * The Task system now has substantially reduced overhead when many
1158. doLater's are waiting in the system.
1159. * The png image file type is now supported.
  1160. Rendering system:
1161. * Introducing native DirectX9 graphics support, although we do not
1162. yet support any features specific to DirectX9, such as
  1163. programmable shaders.
1164. * DirectX7 and DirectX8 modules are now somewhat more robust.
1165. * New support for offscreen rendering and render-to-a-texture, which
1166. will become part of a general multipass-rendering interface.
1167. Presently supported in OpenGL, with limited DirectX support. Use
1168. GraphicsWindow::make_texture_buffer() to make a buffer you can
1169. render into and apply the result as a texture map to objects in
1170. your scene. The NonlinearImager in the distort directory is a
1171. complex example of using this interface.
  1172. * Explicit support for the Mesa 3D library's software-based
1173. offscreen rendering, allowing a Panda program to generate
1174. offscreen images as a background process, independently of any
1175. graphics card or desktop environment.
1176. * GraphicsLayer and GraphicsWindow render order can now be easily
1177. adjusted dynamically with set_sort() methods.
1178. * Built-in frame rate meter can be activated by setting
  1179. "show-frame-rate-meter 1" in your Configrc file.
  1180. Scene graph:
1181. * New tag system on PandaNodes allows storing of arbitrary string
1182. data on nodes, keyed by a string dictionary. The
1183. NodePath::get_net_tag() interface retrieves the data value for a
1184. particular tag on a node or the nearest ancestor of the node.
1185. NodePath::find() can search for a node in the scene graph with a
1186. given tag or tag/value pair.
1187. * Explicit shear transforms are now supported on nodes, as well as
  1188. in character animation tables.
1189. * Characters now have an interface to control joint and slider
1190. values dynamically, instead of strictly from an animation file.
  1191. Use Actor.exposeJoint() and/or Actor.controlJoint().
1192. * Nurbs surfaces and curves can now be rendered directly by Panda,
1193. which will tesselate them on the fly at some CPU cost. This is a
1194. modeling convenience only; it is not intended to be used for
1195. production code. Triangle strips are still the fastest way to
  1196. render complex surfaces.
  1197. * However, Rope.py is now provided as a high-level wrapper around
1198. Panda's runtime NURBS curve evaluator; it can render dynamic
1199. curves in a variety of ways.
1200. * The egg library is now published to Python, allowing construction
1201. of geometry on-the-fly by show code for convenience. This is also
1202. intended as a developer's convenience more than a production
  1203. feature.
  1204. Text display:
1205. * The special character \3 (ASCII 0x03) embedded in a text string
1206. indicates the position of a soft hyphen when wordwrap mode is in
1207. effect. The character \4 (ASCII 0x04) serves as a hyphenless
  1208. invisible break point.
1209. * A default font is compiled in even if the FreeType library is not
  1210. available.
1211. * pnmtext library added for rendering text directly into an image.
1212. * New egg-mkfont utility uses FreeType to generate static font
1213. models that Panda clients without FreeType can use to render text.
  1214. Collision and physics system:
1215. * More robust collision interface, supporting NodePaths properly so
1216. that collisions detected into (and from) particular instances of
1217. nodes can be differentiated. CollisionEntry has a much simpler
1218. mechanism for getting the intersection point and normal in an
1219. arbitrary coordinate space defined by a NodePath, instead of the
1220. user having to convert the coordinate space by hand.
1221. * New CollisionVisualizer object to visually show collisions as they
1222. are tested and detected, useful for optimizing collision
  1223. performance. Activate this with
  1224. base.cTrav.showCollisions(render).
1225. * Implicit velocity system is now integrated with scene graph; the
1226. relative velocity of moving nodes is automatically considered when
1227. testing for most kinds of collisions. Use
1228. NodePath::set_fluid_pos() to indicate that a node is moving
1229. fluidly to its new position and should test for collisions along
1230. the way (as opposed to the more traditional NodePath::set_pos(),
1231. which unconditionally sets the node to its new position).
1232. * Introduction of "tube" collision shapes, sometimes called
1233. "capsules" in other libraries. It is a cylinder capped with
  1234. hemispheres.
  1235. * CollisionSolid::set_effective_normal() provides a way to define a
1236. sloping surface with an apparently vertical normal, to prevent
1237. characters standing on the surface from sliding down.
1238. * Collision polygons now respect clipping planes.
1239. * Many changes to physics system.
  1240. HTTPClient and net systems:
1241. * More verbose error reporting.
1242. * Better support for proxy servers, including SOCKS5 proxies.
  1243. Model converters:
  1244. * maya2egg converter now supports skeleton/morph animation files
1245. fully, including soft-skinning, hard-skinning, and morphs (blend
1246. shapes). NURBS and polygon meshes are both supported.
1247. * A new Maya plugin called libmayapview allows opening a Panda
1248. window from within Maya to view how the scene will look once it
1249. has been converted to Panda.
1250. * New soft2egg converter supports models and animation stored in
1251. SoftImage 4.3 files. (Newer versions of SoftImage are not
  1252. supported.)
1253. * New egg2flt program more or less reverses flt2egg.
1254. * The ptloader Panda loader allows direct loading into Panda of most
1255. model file types defined within pandatool: Maya, flt, and lwo.
1256. Specify load-file-type ptloader in your Configrc file.
1257. * New egg-optchar preprocessor improves character animation runtime
1258. performance by eliminating unneeded joints. It can also
1259. reorganize a skeleton and/or expose joints for the show code's
  1260. convenience.
1261. * New egg-qtess utility converts NURBS egg files to polygon egg
1262. files with either a trivial interface for quick conversions or a
1263. sophisticated parameter file for more precise control. It
1264. preserves soft-skinning and animation information.
1265. * New visibility flag in egg format allows model files to define
1266. invisible subtrees which will be initially stashed when loaded.
1267. * The egg library now allows implicit forward references to vertex
1268. pools, making it much easier to generate a valid egg file from a
  1269. third-party model format.
