  1335. and network input to a disk file, for replaying later, offline.

  1355. your scene. The NonlinearImager in the distort directory is a

  1357. * Explicit support for the Mesa 3D library's software-based
  1358. offscreen rendering, allowing a Panda program to generate
  1359. offscreen images as a background process, independently of any
  1360. graphics card or desktop environment.
  1361. * GraphicsLayer and GraphicsWindow render order can now be easily
  1362. adjusted dynamically with set_sort() methods.
  1363. * Built-in frame rate meter can be activated by setting
  1364. "show-frame-rate-meter 1" in your Configrc file.
  1365. Scene graph:
  1366. * New tag system on PandaNodes allows storing of arbitrary string
  1367. data on nodes, keyed by a string dictionary. The
  1368. NodePath::get_net_tag() interface retrieves the data value for a
  1369. particular tag on a node or the nearest ancestor of the node.
  1370. NodePath::find() can search for a node in the scene graph with a
  1371. given tag or tag/value pair.
  1372. * Explicit shear transforms are now supported on nodes, as well as
  1373. in character animation tables.
  1374. * Characters now have an interface to control joint and slider
  1375. values dynamically, instead of strictly from an animation file.
  1376. Use Actor.exposeJoint() and/or Actor.controlJoint().
  1377. * Nurbs surfaces and curves can now be rendered directly by Panda,
  1378. which will tesselate them on the fly at some CPU cost. This is a
  1379. modeling convenience only; it is not intended to be used for
  1380. production code. Triangle strips are still the fastest way to

  1382. * However, Rope.py is now provided as a high-level wrapper around
  1383. Panda's runtime NURBS curve evaluator; it can render dynamic

  1387. intended as a developer's convenience more than a production

  1389. Text display:
  1390. * The special character \3 (ASCII 0x03) embedded in a text string
  1391. indicates the position of a soft hyphen when wordwrap mode is in
  1392. effect. The character \4 (ASCII 0x04) serves as a hyphenless
  1393. invisible break point.
  1394. * A default font is compiled in even if the FreeType library is not
  1395. available.
  1396. * pnmtext library added for rendering text directly into an image.
  1397. * New egg-mkfont utility uses FreeType to generate static font
  1398. models that Panda clients without FreeType can use to render text.
  1399. Collision and physics system:
  1400. * More robust collision interface, supporting NodePaths properly so
  1401. that collisions detected into (and from) particular instances of
  1402. nodes can be differentiated. CollisionEntry has a much simpler
  1403. mechanism for getting the intersection point and normal in an
  1404. arbitrary coordinate space defined by a NodePath, instead of the
  1405. user having to convert the coordinate space by hand.
  1406. * New CollisionVisualizer object to visually show collisions as they
  1407. are tested and detected, useful for optimizing collision
  1408. performance. Activate this with
  1409. base.cTrav.showCollisions(render).
  1410. * Implicit velocity system is now integrated with scene graph; the
  1411. relative velocity of moving nodes is automatically considered when
  1412. testing for most kinds of collisions. Use
  1413. NodePath::set_fluid_pos() to indicate that a node is moving
  1414. fluidly to its new position and should test for collisions along
  1415. the way (as opposed to the more traditional NodePath::set_pos(),
  1416. which unconditionally sets the node to its new position).
  1417. * Introduction of "tube" collision shapes, sometimes called
  1418. "capsules" in other libraries. It is a cylinder capped with
  1419. hemispheres.
  1420. * CollisionSolid::set_effective_normal() provides a way to define a
  1421. sloping surface with an apparently vertical normal, to prevent
  1422. characters standing on the surface from sliding down.
  1423. * Collision polygons now respect clipping planes.
